In nearly every newborn photo shoot the parents tell me how relieved they were that the baby slept or they invite me over for the night feeds. Either way rest assured that your baby is in good hands.
I have three boys of my own. All premature, restless sleepers and two with colic so believe me when I say I know what it’s like! Baby’s cry. Simple fact. It’s how they communicate their needs with us. Every session is baby led so that parents and baby’s are at their most comfortable. If your newborn baby needs a feed then we will pause. If your baby needs a nappy change then we will pause. If your baby is uncomfortable in a certain position then I will not force it, as not all babies will be able to do every pose.
Before you arrive I will be preparing certain measures to help your baby feel secure. I like to mimic the mother’s womb. Here are some of the things I will do:
· The room will be around 25 degrees which I will check on my thermometer throughout the session to ensure it isn’t too warm
· There will be calming music or white noise playing in the background as well as a heartbeat sound if needed.
· I start my sessions with wrapped poses to help that womb feeling of being all snuggled up.
· I also rock baby and give them that sensation of the mother moving around while they were in the womb.
These all add up to an awesome sleeper. Sometimes baby’s don’t sleep great but that’s okay too. Open eyes photos are lovely. If the baby is particularly unwell we will organise a reshoot at no extra cost. So in other words – it will all be fine either way!
I always want my clients to leave a newborn baby session feeling relaxed and most importantly make sure they have enjoyed themselves. I want them to feel confident in my abilities to capture the early days of their baby’s life.
Please feel free to pop me any questions about my photo sessions and I will be happy to answer!
